Book Review: A Waste of Paper - Pictures in Brown-and-White Only

It is rather a waste that ALL the pictures are in brown-and-white (in shades of the brown shown on the book cover). The glossy paper would have be a good medium for realistic colors. But according to Nick: "The vulva is almost too powerful when shot in color--to me it suggests pornography. It can be too real. The viewer gets drawn into a purely sexual response to the subject".

Unfortunately that Nick should feel this way.

By taking away the color, Nick has removed a dimension of beauty. Imagine our world suddenly becomes black-and-white instead of multi-colored. A great part of the beauty would be lost. As for a real looking vulva invoking sexual response, that is the "fault" of the viewer, not the vulva. Don't blame the vulva for being in color. If colored pictures of vulva suggests pornography, that is to say we cannot view these vulva in their natural appearance because in color, they are objects of pornography?!! This is absurd.

I rather prefer another book "Femalia", which although has only 32 photos, are in full color. I wouldn't say all are beautful but a beautiful vulva in full color would beat this whole book "Petals" hands down, 'coz none in "Petals" would match the beauty of the one in color. All becomes very unnatural when shown only in shades of brown-and-white in "Petals".
