Book Review: A true and honest retelling

Very impressive since Peter Pan, or Peter and Wendy, the original story by J.M. Barrie, is one of my all-time favorite books.
Sadly, most people are only ever exposed to the Disney movie, which so completely misses the point of the story I can't even begin to ennumerate the ways. Don't even get me started on that dreadful Hook movie, which I try to pretend doesn't even exist. The more recent adaptation was okay... the boy that plays Peter looks the part, but I shudder every time he opens his mouth - he's like a young, blonde Keanu. Jason "Lucious" Isaacs made a wonderful Hook, though, but I digress.
My point is that I just finished reading a retelling of the story that neither betrays the original nor pointlessly copies it. Barry and Pearson have created an amazing tale. Every page, every action rings true. It's as every bit as nuanced as Barrie's work. Incidentally, I think Mr. Dave should start spelling his name "Barrie" instead.
I don't want to give anything away, but it's all here - Peter, the pirates, fairy dust, flying, a giant croc, Smee, sword fights, daring rescues, mermaids and savages, and most importantly, they got the name right. It's Never Land. Not NeverNever Land.
