Book Reviews of Phantom Prey (Lucas Davenport)

Book Review: Davenport Grows Up
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a solid Davenport mystery. Action, good dialogue and most importantly, Davenport coming of age.

Lucas is beginning to realize just how much he has to LOSE if he get's shot and killed. Weather is a SOLID foil for him and helps keep him on track.

Would like to see Del's character fleshed out more in his own book like That F'n Flowers! ;-)

Book Review: Only when I really have something to say do I review
Summary: 1 Stars

I didn't think I'd see another Lucas Davenport book after Sandford began writing for Virgil, which was okay, but not fantastic. I missed Lucas ... and still do. Phantom Prey jumped the shark for the Lucas Davenport series. By the time I got to the end I thought, did I miss something? Because I figured it out about a tenth into the book. I kept thinking I've read this tired plot before. I know where he's going. Sigh. I honestly felt sorry for Lucas that he ever got involved in this stupid case, that truly was stupid, and knew the only reason he couldn't see through it was because it was being written that way. I was actually ready for him to dump Weather after this. LOL.

I won't buy the next Sandford book. I'm going to the library. He's got to earn me back as a loyal buyer. I'm sorry, Mr. Sandford. I really do love your work normally.

Book Review: It was ok......
Summary: 3 Stars

I have read all of the Lucas Davenport series and they have all been good reads but some have been better than others. I am all for a good mystery story combined with a bit of the family life of the hero but in this story I think both aspects were weakened a little.

The main storyline of the stabbing murder is good and it was difficult to work out who killed whom, but the extra storyline of Loren was unnecessary I thought, and read funny.

I am used to Lucas Davenport and like him as a character just that in this book, it all read a little "off" as if the author was writing from a formula.

A good read overall as it is John Sandford who is a talented writer but not his best work.

Book Review: pitiful prey
Summary: 1 Stars

Not all of the Prey books are equal, but since I am reading this series, this being the 7th, prey tell, this is the worst. I don't think Sanford was well versed on the subject of Goths. We weren't afterwards either. Just plain tripe. Some of the Prey's have been very good, some just entertaining, this one - not even...

Book Review: Lucas Davenport Is Back
Summary: 4 Stars

Well Lucas Davenport is back. John Sandford's main character in his Prey series is just as good as the beginning books again. I was worried after reading his last two books and then Mr. Sandford started writing the Virgil Flowers series that we had lost Lucas forever, but thankfully he's back. This murder mystery is a good one. There's a lot of twists and turns. Del is also back in this book helping with the secondary mystery of the book. Mr. Sandford is a master of getting the reader involved in the character's lives without risking the mystery or even the suspense. Anyone could pick up this book. It's not necessarily a stand alone but it has enough that you don't have to know the characters. However if you do then it makes it even better. I would highly recommend John Sandford's Prey Series and this book brings it all back.
