Book Review: Well-worn and much loved book at our house!
Summary: 5 Stars
My two-year old loves this book--she calls it 'Piggleywinks Pie' and requests it often. I like it because several of the words show up in the text with little pictures, which is a great device to teach reading. I trace each line as I read it aloud to her, so she can see that when I say the word 'pie' it corresponds to the picture of a pie and the word 'pie' underneath. This story/plot is funny [the four kids eat a pie after it's offered by Mom, want to eat the second pie but are told 'no,' after eating it anyway realize they better make another one quickly and of course they run into a few snags along the way]. The moral is spelled out pretty explictly at the end: "Piggley wished he had waited to eat his mother's pie. Next time he would do as Ms. Winks asked." Recommended for any pre- and early readers, but especially for fans of the show.
