April Turtle Greer is the adopted Cherokee child of Taylor Greer. Taylor leads the child from town to town trying to avoid Annawake Fourkiller. Mrs. Fourkiller is part of the Cherokee Nation, she stumbled upon Turtle and Taylor while watching the Opera Whinfery Show, on an episode about children that had saved other peoples lives. Fourkiller hunted them down after she realized that the child was Cherokee and was illegally adopted. Meanwhile, Taylor's mother falls madly in love with a man named Cash Stillwater of the Heaven. "Ableurdledear", turns out to be his long lost granddaughter that was abounded at a gas station outside of Tucson Arizona.
Not much else happened to Turtle that didn't happen in the first book. Turtle saw a man fall into a hole on Hover damn, she got on the Opera Whinfery show. Annawake Fourkiller saw Turtle and thought that she looked Cherokee. Annawake looked into Turtles paperwork, and found that she was Cherokee and was also not legally adopted. Fourkiller hunted down Taylor and Turtle, Taylor took Turtle with her and ran, Taylor's mother fell in love with the only living relative of Turtle, who just so happened to be her grandfather, and a friend of Taylor's mom's cousin. The book honestly was a dive. Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite writer's; don't get me wrong, it's just sometimes a sequel is not as good as the original. The author, Barbra is a much better writer than this book leads you to believe.
