Book Review: Poker Play it like the pros....possibly
Summary: 4 Stars
My first Poker book , reccomended to me online by a fellow poker player . Whilst a new player myself I am still learning.There are elements in this book that are superb i.e. the top 10 card ranking system and syle of plays, and the book moves steadily from new player to intermediate . It also covers nicely the different forms of Poker and explains fairly clearly the different games . The downside ... well the biggest downside was using unrealistic gaming amounts , using in one example a game with bets of $400 and $800 and then saying better bring $50,000 to this game...righty-Ho.. now where's my wallet... Assumptions are made that we all have a grounding in Poker ,and thats something I didn't have ,this proved frustrating moving from intermediate to advanced at a breakneck speed . Also I felt that the aspect of how to bet are missed a little and this has left me clutching at straws , it's easy to do online when the computer works it out but at home it provokes bitter rows over the betting scale . Some would say the book is also being used as an advertising tool for Phil's website and chosen online gaming room , having said that I have to say the sites are not bad atall ..The style of Phil's insights into pro poker games could annoy people , talking about specific hands and personalities , but I loved it !!
All in all not a bad book , not badly written , but at times it can gallop away into a different pasture leaving you to wonder whats going on .... All being said ..It's worth a read !! Buy it
