Book Reviews of Pokemon Diamond & Pearl (Prima Official Game Guide)Book Review: OK but information on individual Pokemon is lacking Summary: 3 StarsThe title says it all really. The standard of walkthrough guides from Prima has always been high but previous Pokemon guides have given detailed information for each Pokemon such as type, moves and location whereas this guide only gives the locations. Aside from that it's useful.
Book Review: What a Pity Summary: 1 StarsOh dear.. When I played Red/Blue and Gold/Silver all those years ago, I used a guide made by Nintendo magazine. Under a fiver, but they were brilliant, easy to follow, and packed with information. This time, I made the decision to go with this guide, as Prima guides are usually good.
It is so disappointing. I found the guide fairly hard to follow as it's organised by area/town rather than a linear walkthrough of the game. Often I found myself having to backtrack through half the guide to see if I was meant to do anything in an earlier town. But maybe that's me just nitpicking. The maps are clear, and the actual steps in each area are clear and concise.
The one thing that is absolutely atrocious is the lack of information on the individual Pokemon. No detail on what level they evolve, or how to evolve them. No information whatsoever on which type each Pokemon is. Nothing about the levels at which Pokemon learn their various moves. Even details on where to find the Pokemon were scarce. This is what I bought the guide for, and in my opinion is more essential to know. I can't believe I paid double what I did for the old guides and only got half the information.
Book Review: THIS IS THE 'SCENARIO GUIDE'!!!! Summary: 4 StarsThis book is clearly stated as being called the Scenario Guide/Walkthrough (vol.1). It shows you everything you need to know to work your way through from the start to the elite 4 and champion. It has bird's eye view maps of all the area of the main Sinnoh region.
However, it does not include: (these are included in vol. 2)
A guide to the areas you unlock after beating the Champion.
Details of each individual pokemon (i.e. when it learns moves or when/how it evolves)
As there are now nearly 500 Pokemon, this book would be massive if it had the walkthrough & pokemon guide so they have split it up into two books.
