Book Review: Rather weak

No disrespect to Poncho, but the book is quite weak.
All there is in it is a collection of rather dull variations of four basic rhythms, plus a couple of conga solos. The variations you could make up for yourself unless you really don't have any imagination whatsoever - they are really not that innovative or anything, the difference is normally minute. Play-along tracks are not overly exciting either, you could get the same from just playing along Santana or Santamaria - all you really need is some mamba/rumba rhythm for the background.
There are virtually no explanations of the technique, nothing is said about how to build your groove and when different things should be played - so basically, you'll learn four basic things and this is going to be it. OKish for a complete beginner, but not worth the money.
After all that I found the culinary (!) recipes included in the book extremely annoying - I can imagine why they are there, but the book ain't that great at all, perhaps they should've paid more attention to the core content?
