Book Review: Disappointed Summary: 2 Stars
The bulk of this book is the author selling you on the importance of good posture, and introducing you to some general principles. It's basically one long introduction. It almost reads like an advertisement for an e-book, where you keep reading in hope of finding some actual content. I read one chapter, skimmed through the rest, and then came to the end, where he lists a bunch of different stretching and excercise routines that you can choose based on what you think you need. That's okay, but that kind of thing I can view for free with a little google searching, so it's not worth my money.
If you want to find a good book on posture that really teaches you something about your body, try The New Rules of Posture by Mary Bond.
Book Review: Got long-lasting significant results Summary: 5 Stars
I had first followed this book one and a half years ago, and saw significant improvement on my posture in a month. After that, I have continued doing a few exercises, but not everyday. Actually, I sometimes forgot to do for a week or two. Last week, I met a friend of mine after several years interval, and he mentioned my posture got better. To make sure, I did the "self-test" described in this book, and determined that my posture was still much better than that I had written down on a note when I started, although there was some minor misalignment, which had been gone when I finished a month of exercise. I am really glad for this long-lasting result with such minimal maintenance.
"Posture Alignment" by Paul D'Arezzo has three superb characteristics to make things work: It 1) is easy to perceive, 2) keeps you motivated and 3) gives noticeable results in a short term. Let me describe in detail, as follows:
1) Although everyone is motivated at the point of picking up a book to improve their health, we all know that it is practically a tough work to keep the initial motivation even until to finish reading it. However, in this particularly readable book, every critical point has been highlighted. And just by quickly taking a look of those points throughout the book, you can easily understand the whole logic that is based on the medical experience of the author.
2) Half of this book is dedicated to convince the reader of the importance of resetting our joints and muscles being flexible before building up the muscles, which, in a long term, you would appreciate as precious as the practical part of this book. Because that notion is a critical point and also has been usually misunderstood, the author explains it thoroughly with plenty of real-life examples. And by reading this part, your concept about posture will change once and forever, thus would keep the motivation long after you finished reading it, as it happened to me.
3) Most importantly, it works, and the result is obvious even after a short while of practice. I had had a problem of my shoulders to slouch, and it was very encouraging to me when I recognized that not so many fingers were seen any more in the front view (you'll see what this means when you get this book) just after a few weeks of the shoulder alignment practice.
After seeing the results, I feel more motivated now, and have started to do the full menu, again, for a month or so. Thanks Dr Paul D'Arezzo, for his straightforward instruction, which certainly contributed to increase my self-confidence. I highly recommend this book to everyone, especially to people who are lazy and clumsy like myself.
Book Review: Great Book! Summary: 5 Stars
This book is excellent! It gives you a bunch of information about good and bad postures and it gives excercises to correct each type of bad posture. Do a couple exercises and you will already be able to feel a difference. Do them everyday and your posture will be corrected in no time.
Book Review: Great practical advice and instructions Summary: 5 Stars
This book gives outstanding and very practical direction on small changes, easy exercises and pain-relieving stretches that make for great improvments in your posture. I've only been following the instructions for two days and I already have less pain and am standing straighter with less effort. A quick and easy read too. Worth the price and then some.
