Book Reviews of Power of Now 2009 Wall CalendarBook Review: Very recommendable Summary: 4 StarsA very useful and illuminating read, which illustrates many sound ways to achieve a happier and more contented life, through question and answer based chapters and general discussion. The present moment is often neglected in the hustle-bustle of everyday life, here Tolle presents clear, consise and engaging philosophies, using examples to back them up, on how to make the most of the present, to forgive, to let go, and not become bogged down in subconscious thought processes, inflated egocentricity, or past problems, or stressing constantly about the future. There are a few minor issues: some of the more extreme suggestions, such as completely dissasociating with thought and emotion and the ego in order to fully identify with the Now, are not necessarily 'truths' but more debatable philosophy on which spiritualist opinion differs. Many could argue that a life devoid of analytical thinking, traditional feeling and emotion would be unrealistic, and may encourage complacency and blissful ignorance- also, there are many situations where an appreciation of past and future can be very helpful provided that they aren't latched onto in a destructive way. I also thought that the first half of the book was much better than the second: a lot of the second half is repetition of the first, and brings in more in the way of debatable philosophy, as opposed to the excellent general advice offered throughout the first half. In general though, a highly useful book that has certainly made positive changes to my life. I strongly recommend it to those who are unhappy with their lives, particularly those who frequently suffer from negative trains of thought, are regularly stressed and/or feel over-worked.
Book Review: Awareness more than enlightenment Summary: 4 StarsThis book can be looked at from a psychological aspect as much as it can in a spiritual one, if not more so ! Eckhart Tolle fully delivers the message that we are mainly unconscious beings, in other words controlled by our minds past experiences and future projections rather than being present.I recommend the book for anyone who is on a journey of understanding themselves or at the beginning of their spiritual path. I won't go into great detail as there are plenty of other reviews from different people giving different honest opinions from their perspective. However, I implore anyone to ignore the review of the lady from Scotland who points toward Jesus and the bible. If you want to find yourself then look inward, don't give yourself over to a religion or it's perspectives, make your own for YOU. This book is about finding your inner self (the real you) by living in the now ! The only way to find out is to get it and see how you feel.
Book Review: Recommended Summary: 5 StarsWhat a great book. Brings together a lot of Taoist, Christian and other teachings into a highly practical and compelling stratetgy for living your life in the 'Now': very clear and helpful on a lot of 'difficult' issues. It's made a great difference to my life, for the better - I'm just buying his other books off Amazon now. If you like 'Now', share your thoughts here and elsewhere: help spread enlightenment!
Book Review: Learn to enjoy your life NOW Summary: 5 StarsI thoroughly recommend this book...it explains why we humans act the way we do and it gives easy to read ideas to change old stuck patterns in order to bring total harmony and peace to your world and relationships. It explains what is happening in the world and why we are experiencing the things we are. Acceptance is the key, let go and heal your life. I am priviledged to have read this book....it is part of life's lessons.
Book Review: Rubbish! Summary: 1 StarsThis book is a repetitive read and no more than new age twaddle. Furthermore, the useful aspects of this book are actually no more than common sense, and could be written on the back of a postcard!!!
