Book Review: Good lesbian romantic fiction

Promising Hearts is the sequel to Innocent Hearts, which I would recommend you read if you are intending to or have read Promising Hearts as it fills in a lot of the back detail about two of the main characters Kate and Jessie. Promising Hearts focuses on Mae a frontier madam, who we were introduced to in Innocent Hearts and the sweetly romantic relationship that develops between Mae and Vance Phelps a doctor emotionally damaged by the American Civil war, in which she served as a surgeon. If you are looking for well written romance, gentle eroticism, escapism and a happy ending look no further. My only complaint of the novel is that again we are left wondering about Mae, where she came from, why she ended up in New Hope and her reasons for her choice of lifestyle. Is the author being deliberately mysterious or is this because she intends to make this series a trilogy - I hope it is the latter and then maybe we can get some of the answers to what has been left unanswered by the previous novels.
