Book Review: A Basic Story Picture Book, Doesn't Reach the High Quality of Humour That Adam Rex's Books for Older Readers Do

You won't find many a better author that writes humorous fiction for all reading levels than Adam Rex. Psst! is a picture book and although better than a lot of other picture books out there, it doesn't quite reach the humour level your expecting when purchasing an Adam Rex book. It's a worthwhile read for fans of Rex but you'll probably want to borrow it from your library before purchasing. The illustrations as well vary in quality with this one, the animals look sensational as you would expect from Rex, the little girl isn't that well drawn though, and the rest of the illustrations on each page are mostly just outlines as you would find in a colouring book. There are the little hidden image and word jokes you expect from a Rex book if you're prepared to take the time to look.
Basic plot is a little girl visits the zoo where in the style of Gary Larson's Far Side the animals can talk, have taken on human qualities and have plans of their own. As the girl passes each animal they all yell out Pssst! When she approaches each one, they all request that she buys them various items seemingly to fix their neglected enclosures. But all is not as seems, there's a twist to these zoo creatures plans!
