Book Reviews of Public Enemy #2: An All-New Boondocks CollectionBook Review: Mcgruder is the Chris Rock of comics... Summary: 5 StarsPublic Enemy #2 puts real issues into real comedy! The book is politically witty and joyfully sarcastic. Mcgruder is the Chris Rock of comics!
Book Review: Simply Enjoyable Summary: 4 StarsI was very interested in this book, due to the comic strip, and I must say I was not disappointed. Shows a different perspective on social and political views with a great comical twist.
Book Review: Add this one to your collection! Summary: 4 Stars I liked this book. I've always been crazy about Huey's sarcastic wit and the balance that Caesar and Riley provide to it. Although a lot more of "Public Enemy #2" is a little more political than the three books before it, the 'Docks is still going strong, and there are some really big laughs in this book.
For all those Jasmine fans out there, if you haven't kept up on the strip, she doesn't show up until WAAAY late in the book, and few and far between after that (but she's still as innocent and adorable as ever, and that afro puff has grown exponentially in size).
What else...? Oh, yeah the artwork has changed (slightly). If you have the other three books (or have been keeping up with the strips), you can compare the differences; while the characters have the same basic look, you'll notice there's a slightly different "feel" to them. That's because Aaron called in a little help--he mentions his assistants in the foreword.
Well, I'm not really that great at doing reviews, but I definitely recommend the book--even if it's just to add to your collection, and especially if you're a big fan of the "angry kid with the afro."
Also, be on the lookout for the animated series!
Book Review: EXCELLENT! Summary: 5 StarsAaron McGruder is the king of satire! This book is hilarious. It's just in time for his impending animated version beginning in October of 2005. I highly recommend this book for anyone with a sense of humor who can think for themselves.
Book Review: Printed out of order Summary: 1 StarsStupid punks couldn't even print the strips in calendar order.
One moment you're reading a strip about Bush winning the election, next page Kerry is preparing for the debates.
Stupid, stupid, stupid punks. (Mad props to McGruder for scribbling in the dates in each strip. Pity the book was ruined)
