Book Review: Good enough for girls
Summary: 5 Stars
This is a beautifully written memoir of the author's experience as a (very) young man in what they used to call the Far East, in WWII. Although Fraser, the author of the Flashman books, and an unapologetic imperialist, might not like it, I must call the book tender. His depiction of his comrades in arms are truly loving; I felt I knew them all. Their vividness was enhanced by the author's use of regional accents and slang, which takes a while to get used to. But once you do, the music plays easily in your head, adding to your familiarity with the varioius characters.
I must add that I'm not a Flashman fan, a battle buff, or a male, and yet I truly count this book among my favorites of all time.
