This is a pretty good book - although I agree with the co-author that there probably isn't any evidence that James (Jass) Jackson fathered Queen. I think that is the sad and tragic part the "children of the plantation" - they were not accepted into either world and were caste out of the family and probably never mentioned around the plantation after the Civil War ended. The book ends on a happy note but I would have liked to have found out when Queen died and how close she really was to Alex Haley. The tv movie was ok - I think it glossed over and sugar coated the issue of slavery. The point of both Roots and Queen wasn't the historical aspects or accuracy (although those were interesting and important too) but a story of an American family. I think these stories are worth reading and should be discussed in schools and at home since most people want to know where they came from and what made certain life events turn them into the person they are.
