Book Reviews of Queen of Swords

Book Review: Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

The Wilderness series is the best ever. I wish it would be made into a mini series

Book Review: Awful
Summary: 1 Stars

I read the other 4 books in this series and enjoyed them. This book, however, was awful.

Luke, Jennet, and Hannah are paper cut-outs of the characters in the previous books. There is no life in them, at all. I felt no connection between Luke and Jennet. Hannah, who, in the previous book, was still desperately mourning the loss of her husband and son suddenly no longer seems concerend by the loss. She sleeps with men though she doesn't care about them and this supposedly makes her a strong, independent woman. Really?!

The story itself is never explained satisfactorily. I still do not know why Jennet and her child were kidnapped in the first place. In fact, most bad things that happen in this book happen for no particular reason. The bad guy is bad because his mother is bad. His mother is bad because she's.... evil. Ok, sure. More paper cut-outs of characters.

Also, enough with the rapes. Everybody is raped in this book. The depth and horror of rape is minimized by the way it is written so often and so hapzardly in this book. It is as if rape is merely used as a writing tool to prove that someone is a bad guy. I get it.

Again, the other books in this series were delightful. Although, frankly, this book was so bad it tainted the previous ones in my mind. I would highly suggest reading the other 4 books and pretending this one doesn't exist.

Book Review: Doesn't Disappoint!
Summary: 5 Stars

After learning that my 2 favorite characters, Nathaniel and Elizabeth, would be taking a back seat in this novel, I was prepared not to like it. But Donati makes it impossible to put down. Complex and interesting characters that you will love, even when you want to hate them a bit. This series is the best I've ever read. I can't wait for Endless Forest to be released!

Book Review: Fantastic!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I loved this book!! I love this series! I'm so glad that there is another book in the series waiting for me once I finished this book!

Luke and Hannah set off on a journey to rescue Jennett, a cousin and Luke's betrothed, who had been kidnapped at the end of Fire Along the Sky. This journey took us to Florida and New Orleans a gave us quite a change of pace from the Endless Forest and New York territory that we were used to.

It also gave quite a change of scenery for Hannah who had to deal with more from outsiders than she is used to because of her mixed Indian heritage.

What I enjoyed about this book was the author's ability to describe the slavery, Creole and ethnicity issues without sugar coating or romanticizing them for the reader's benefit. I also enjoy the descriptive writing that made me feel as if I was walking down the New Orleans streets right alongside everyone else.

While I tend to shy away from novels of this length, Sara Donati fills the pages with so much action and twists and turns that I could not imagine the book being any shorter and I don't mind spending all the time with the characters to get te full story.

It's a great read! I highly recommend!

Book Review: Great book
