Book Reviews of Quivers: A LifeBook Review: One of the best biographies I have ever read Summary: 5 Stars
Quivers is a book that will make you want to laugh, cry, scream, and smile all at once. The life of this beautiful woman is a true tale of personal conflict and how she dealt with them( or decided not to deal with). I do not want to put any specifics into this review so there are no spoilers. After reading this book i feel more in touch with myself as well as Robin. I feel as though i could walk right up to her and make good conversation because she is so candid in telling what has happened to her on her road to greatness. Robin, if you ever read this, DELAWARE loves you!
Book Review: Publishing plans for BABA BOOEY: A LIFE have been canceled Summary: 3 Stars
When it was released several years ago, QUIVERS: A LIFE, the autobiography of radio and television's "Howard Stern Show" member Robin Quivers, had a short life on the bookstore shelves. QUIVERS: A LIFE seems to have met the same fate as the musical careers of the Stern Show's Stuttering John Melendez and Fred Norris: a quick exit to WhoCares?ville. Public interest in even the closest associates of Howard Stern proves limited if Stern himself does not participate in the project. Just because Miss Quivers' life is part of "The Howard Stern Show," that does not mean the public wants a book independent of Stern's involvement. Even Billy West and Jackie Martling, the most talented performers to work with Howard Stern, have not reached anything resembling stardom. It seems the sum of the parts do not equal the whole Stern show. I imagine book publishers canceled plans for BABA BOOEY: A LIFE after QUIVERS: A LIFE proved lifeless to the book-buying public. Funny thing is, the well-written QUIVERS: A LIFE keeps the pages turning. Robin Quivers gives the blow-by-blow on her troubled childhood and the resulting tough adjustment she had as an adult. And of course, the anecdotes about working with Howard Stern also keep it interesting.
Book Review: Quivers A Life Summary: 3 Stars
I am a big Howard Stern fan and I just had to read this book. I found it to be enjoyable in the begining (Robin's early life), but I got bored about three quarters way through. The book is written by her, so we miss some outside views on how she really is in her life outside of the studio.
I found the book a little self serving and you get the impression she thinks very highly of herself.
I would recommend the book if you get it for a good price on the used self.
Book Review: Robin's had a crazy life! Summary: 5 Stars
If you're a Stern fan or just a Robin fan you gotta read this book...I knew Robin had an interesting life but I didn't realize just HOW interesting until now!
Book Review: Someone to really respect Summary: 4 Stars
I read this book a few years ago and it has stuck with me ever since.
Truth be told, I was only interested in Robin Quivers because she was on Howard Stern's show. She was entertaining in her own right but I was a bit annoyed at her constant agreeing with him (or what I thought was that. If these critics bothered listening to Howard's show, they'd know that she agreed with him about half the time - if that!) and by that laugh.
BUT after reading her autobiography, I came to like her just as much as Howard and developed much respect for her work ethic and her determination to overcome huge obstacles.
Unlike *some* celebrities, who just about make a living from the fact that they were molested as a child, Robin dealt with it and moved on. She proved time and again on Howard's radio show (as well as on TV and the few videos that Howard made over the years) that she could have people joke about it and she took the teasing like a champ.
Robin's and Howard's paths zigzagged towards each other and they've been inseparable ever since. (And, according to her, she was tricked into the military and when she wanted to get out of it, she realized she couldn't - not without being dishonorably discharged. It's the only reason why she served.)
Robin fought against some pretty bad odds, got her priorities straight and has been on the right track ever since.
