The closer to our time a story sits the riskier it is, but
that is also what makes for a great read. Sure it may be a
flight of imagination to tell us what the year 2300 will look
like, but its MUCH more daring to tell us about 2030.
This book has ideas close enough to present technology that
you can really see them happening. Just imagine the home PC
being replaced with contact lenses and some worn electronics
supporting it, I mean when I read that I went WOW. It solves
the whole problem of the digital/physiological interface.
The description of gaming in this book is so rich in ideas, a
cross between real world and virtual world gaming.
I have no idea how anyone could find this book boring, it
took great effort to put it down for me. If you like Snow
Crash and Tad Williams Otherland by all means don't miss
this.
Book Review: worth aread Summary: 4 Stars
all the other comments have hit the reasons to like/hate the work, maybe because I read this while my fatherin law was suffering with Alzheimer's it reach me. I like to think some day we can call these folks back, true no one in the book was what I call loveable, but they seemed real to me and as always his views on the impact of tech feels so right. I also give it points as he placed in time, 2025 so he had to reflect on what is now happening and make a leap to what he wanted.
