This book is written by probably by the most informed outsider to this terrible story. A journalist who had investigated Jim Jones and his 'church' years before the final tragedy. - Sorry, two journalists who had worked on the story, one of them present in the beginning of the holocaust.
The book is based on impeccable research and documentation. It tries to explain the roots and consequences of Jim Jones' - madness? How the events could happen and why many went along with it. It does not pretend to have the final answers. It does make one to reflect on what people want and need most and to what extremes they are willing to go to find it. It is a frightening and necessary book.
