Book Reviews of Reach for the Summit

Book Review: Reach For The Summit
Summary: 5 Stars

For the first time I have read a motivational book that breaks ideas down into easy digestable pieces. As a college coach I am impressed with Coach Summitt's philosophy and execution. I share her ideals and focus. My 10 year old daughter's comment was, "Gee, Dad there are other coachs like you!" If she ever decides to play basketball I hope Pat is around to coach her. This has become required reading of my players at Claremont McKenna. Success is easy, you just have to work for it.

Book Review: Reach for the Summit
Summary: 5 Stars

The book Reach for the Summit, by Pat Summit, is one of my all time favorite books. Pat shares some of her most intimate and personal struggles and she shows how she got to the top. Pat Summit is the most winningest coah is the history of the WNCAA, she even has a basketball statium named after her, The Summit.

In the book Pat describes how to make it in life and how to strive to be the best on the baketball floor and in every day struggles. The reason why I like this book so much is because I can feel comfertable taking advice from the head coah of the Tennessee Lady Vols. There are two different people in the world in my oppinion, the people who look up to Pat as a role model, and the peopl who disagree with her standards, but one thing is for certain you have to give credit to the woman who basicaly put womens college basketball on the map.

Book Review: Refreshing, Reinvigorating & Really Worthwhile
Summary: 5 Stars

Being a girl's basketball coach, I first thought I would gain some insight into how to build a winning program. While Pat Summit's book gives you the elements of that, she does a far better job of explaining how to "bake the cake" than simply what to put in it. This book is excellent for people in management positions (that's right, coaching is management)and appropriate points are made relevant to sports, business and life in general. Simply put, clear instructions, clear focus on the ultimate goal, and hard work are an unbeatable combination, that usually result in not having to make excuses or explanations.
I treasure this book as something to utilize along with Coach Wooden's "Pyramid of Success". If you're looking for a new style offense or a secret to better defense, forget it. If you're interested in developing the most out of your players as athletes, and more importantly, people; this book is a must.

Book Review: Success At Its Finest
Summary: 5 Stars

This book reinforced for me the basic fundamentals of success. Working for a highly successful hotel, which has garnered many awards and achievments, I found the same basic philosphies which we practice in this book. It is great reading for those who are looking for success in any and all that they do, and for those who have found success and wish to continue along the path!

Book Review: Type A personality in a woman's basketball program.
Summary: 4 Stars

I enjoyed this book because Pat is definetely old school when she comes to her coaching and managing. I think as America has become a rich country, hard driving individuals like Pat and her parents have become downgraded as more people opt for the human relations style management. Pat proves that the hard driven type management is still very effective in motivating people to their best. In this book, Pat describes both her personal and professional experiences and how that has changed her to the coach she is today. Nothing beats success, and Pat's championships prove her way can make results.
This book is a surprisely good read on leadership and managing. It is applicable to both sports and business. The personal and professional stories prove that Pat's way is still effective in today's world.
