Book Review: A good book no matter where you are on the road of faith

In Reaching for the Invisible God, Philip Yancey tackles the hard questions of the Christian faith passionately, delicately and intelligently. Yancey, as he basically says in his book, locates many stumbling blocks in the journey of faith starting with the more basic and general questions someone new or even hostile to faith might have, gradually progresses to questions and struggles that someone farther down the road of faith would more likely have.
Yancey possesses a keen awareness for knowing when he is approaching a delicate subject while broaching questions such as, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" or "Why does God give us and protect our freedom?" The latter has affected me particularly powerfully.
He moves through the various stumbling blocks and breaks them down bit by bit, not cutting his own religion slack, but acknowledging limitations and times when Christians have failed to live out ideals of the faith, but in such a way that one sees the upsides of those limitations. He also provides stories of when those ideals have been lived out.
Reaching for the Invisible God does such a wonderful job dealing with integral questions of what happens when the rubber hits the road when it comes to Christianity that I would recommend this book to pretty much anyone.
