This book changed me. Between the Signs breathed air back into a career path cobbled with ennui, stagnation, and growing resentment. Although the set-up is rather tedious, the bulk of the book looks at things we thought we knew, with a fresh insistence and plausible explanations. Mindess' revelations are backed up with actual data and research (imagine that!). If terms like "hostile dependence," "highly contextual," and "individualistic vs. collectivist" get you going... then BUY THIS BOOK. Not only will it give you the ammo you need to construct a thoughtful answer on the NIC, it might actually give you reason to pause during your next deaf/hearing culture clash.
