Book Review: Actually depressing

This is a sad story that shows just how close Indianapolis was to keeping big league hockey. In 1976 the Indiana Pacers had just been accepted into the NBA yet it was the WHA Racers who were the talk of the town, a pro hockey team in Basketball country. Had the NHL/WHA merger happened a couple years prior not only could Indianapolis had kept it's big league team but also possibly added a few Stanley Cups since two former Racers named Grezky and Messier went on to have some moderate success in the NHL. Before the NCAA relocated it's HQ to Indpls., before the Colts snuck out of Baltimore, and before anyone knew or cared who the Pacers were the Racers were averageing 10,000 in attendance and were actually delaying game starts to allow the long lines of fans to get into MSA before face off. But they say Hockey wont work in the cornbelt.
