Book Reviews of RentBook Review: The RENThead Bible Summary: 4 StarsThis book is the perfect book for fans of the show and the perfect coffee table book... I simply love reading it and looking at the pictures. The book features information on how the show came about, it's sucess, and the life of Jonathon Larson(it's creator) struggle to have his show made on Broadway. Larson tragically died before opening night due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Truly it's a shame he did not live to see the dream of his creation realized.
In the book the orginal cast members talk a little bit about Larson and the musical's affect on them. The most interesting part of the story is reading about the orginal cast's sucess... all of the orginal cast sucess has become EXTREMELY sucessful. The musical being their break to stardom. The actors & actresses talk about the affect the musical has on their everyday lives.
The musical features little known facts about the show, the cast, and insight onto what made the musical one of the longest running musicals in history.
The book is truly the RentHead bible and perfect for the fan of musicals...

FULL LIBRETTO!!! <-- Ahh, what more could you want?!? I highly recommend this book! It keeps me entertained for HOURS and HOURS on end! :) I could give this book way beyond 5 stars, but alas, thats the boundaries I have been given
Book Review: A Must Have for RENTheads Summary: 5 StarsKnowing the background story of Jonathan Larson made me appreciate the beauty of RENT so much more. We all know the man is a genius to come up with such an amazing musical, but I don't think we knew just how devoted he was. Through the words of mainly friends, family, and a few people who he worked with on RENT, we get a somewhat complete portrait of the man who gave up everything for his baby - his musical.
Jonathan Larson was an amazing man who died a tragic death before he could see his dream fully realized, but I like to think he knows what a success he created. This book shows that it's never easy to make your dreams come true, but you need to keep trying.
One thing I will say is that if you've watched "No Day but Today," the documentary on Disc 2 of RENT (the movie), the material will seem quite repetitive. Also, if you're not a major RENThead or into biographies, I wouldn't waste your time or money. It's an interesting story I gobbled up in about an hour, but it can be a little slow. A plus is that it does have all the song lyrics in there with picture.
I loved it, and it was definitely worth the money I've spent. I've seen RENT 3 times on stage and about 7 times in theaters/on DVD. I know the story inside out, and now, thanks to this book, I also know Jonathan's story. It really made me appreciate RENT that much more.
Book Review: Duh Summary: 5 StarsThere's nothing I can say about this that hasn't been said. I've had a burnt copy of this for a year or so and felt really guilty about it. I felt like there was something wrong with me- that this music had changed my life, and I hadn't paid a penny for it. So that's why I bought it. It also sounds a lot better on the actual discs, louder, etc...
Hopefully this show will continue to change the lives of others the way it has mine.
Book Review: My new favorite movie! Summary: 5 StarsI have wanted to see Rent on Broadway since it came out 10 years ago, but never got to. I was thrilled to have it made into a movie. I saw it in the theater twice in a couple days, & preordered the DVD. I waited anxiously for it to arrive.
This movie is so wonderful, & right away became my favorite movie of all time. It is life affirming. The overall themes are living life to the fullest in the face of poverty & impending death, friends forming a family that takes care of one another, & celebrating life. I cried through most of it.
The music is incredible, beautiful songs & amazing harmonies. I have listened to the cd so much since I got it 3 months ago, I may just wear it out!
I loved all the characters, thought they all did a great job. I especially like the story of Tracie Thoms, going from Rent Head fan to starring as Joanne in the movie. She has an incredible voice. Wilson Jermaine Heridia was unforgettable as Angel. I've liked Jesse L Martin on Law & Order, but seeing him as Collins made me totally nuts for him. That man can sing & be sexy as a gay man, even to a straight woman!
Buy this movie & the cd, you won't be disappointed.
La Vie Boheme!!!!!!!!!!
(I'm looking for baggage that goes with mine-Mimi)
