Book Review: two thirds good, one third a problem
Summary: 3 Stars
A large portion of this book give examples of types of riffs with references to songs. The songs mentioned are often pretty odd, old and non-mainstream making them hard to find. The CD that accompanies the book doesn't contain the songs themselves (obviously), so it is up to you to find the songs that the examples relate to. If you don't have the songs, the first section of the book is largely useless as you have nothing to relate his description to. The author will make references to the verse, chorus, bridge and coda sections of a song which are nearly impossible to comprehend without actually listening the song itself.If you have the songs, its pretty good, and gives good examples of where all the different types of riffs show up. The riff building section is a good read and the riffs included on the CD with guitar tab in the book are good examples to work from.
