Book Review: English translation of the Japanese source novel for all the famous horror films

I read this about four years ago and was surprised to see that it was written so long ago - in 1991. I found it to be a very effective horror novel. It forms the basis of the famous Japanese and American films and their sequels. In the novel the deathly effect of watching the video tape is likened to a virus and has much wider and less personal implications than in the films. Not brilliantly written (and that may be a bad translation) but very absorbing and suspenseful.
