Book Review: -What worked here and what didn't-

Rise and walk was a fairly entertaining read.. What worked for me in this novel was the authors ability to describe things well. He set up some nice zombie kill scenes and described them in a brutal, and sometimes eerie fashion. He wrote out some nice scenes that drew you in with the imagery.. The story was pretty well paced and not stagnated with too many dry chapters. The things that didn't work for me were the main characters Jack and Tony. These guys were a little unbelievable for me, and if they were real people, they would probably be labeled as a little kooky. Jack and Tony are survivalists and are trained in all kinds of martial arts, making explosives, and living off the land. I thought it a little humorous and kind of dumb that these two characters would bring a real gun and a samari sword to a paint ball competition, just in case they run into any trouble. And Jack straps an army knife to himself when he is on the field of competition..although the knife is confiscated by the folks hosting the paint ball contest. In short, the book was a pretty good read, it had it's moments and scratched the zombie itch in parts.. But the character of Jack sometimes made it seem like Rambo Vs the living dead. The Ramboism isn't way over done.. But Jack is untouchable in the story, he never gets into a fix or a close call.. He is always in control and kicks a$$ every time. This kind of thing drains from the suspense of a novel because you know no harm will even come close to befalling the hero. Had it not been for the invincible hero element of this story, it would have been a much more exciting read and would have been five star worthy.
