Book Review: A Good Introduction Worthy of Many Reads

This book is a very good introduction to Pure Land traditions. This book was recommended to me after I'd read the basic introduction Ocean. Coming to Buddhism with no preconceptions, but having spent over a decade surrounded by Chinese Fo Buddhists (Chinese Pure Land Buddhists), I was *still* thankful for the recommendation of reading Ocean first. I'm a bit more obtuse than most, so I will re-read this book many times to pick out pieces I missed in earlier readings. If you have a basic understanding of Buddhist thought, you will likely be able to work through this very enjoyable book quickly and easily.
I'm particularly fond of the stories told by the author. His story of how his grandmother expressed her understanding of Pure Land in the last week of her life is beautiful, informative, and very enlightening. This book is filled with similar stories. Based on THIS book, I've just ordered another by this author.
