Book Reviews of Rules of Prey (Lucas Davenport, No. 1)

Book Review: Amazing book
Summary: 5 Stars

Rules of prey is a constant page-turner. I have not read much for pleasure lately because I can't finish a book, but I finished this book in less than a week because I could not put it down. Can't wait to read the rest in the series.

Book Review: Amazing opener to an amazing series.
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow. I was completely amazed by not only the storyline but also Sandfords unique style of writing. I absolutely adore the two game enthusiasts battle via murders and the media. Something great about Sandfords books is that he is able to create likable horrible villains that you still dont want to see take down the protagonist of the series, Lucas. Maddog is no exception to this, he is likable just because of how horrible, clever and disgusting he is yet you still have to root for Lucas Davenport because hes so determined to end not only the serial killings, but the killers life as well. I would definitely prescribe this book to any friend that has a winter depression from boredom because it will have you reading this nonstop as well as putting all 18 other books in the series in your Amazon cart!

Book Review: Amazing thrill ride of a book!
Summary: 5 Stars

In this book, John Sandford skillfully creates a story about a serial killer who brings the Twin Cities to it's feet. Louis Vullion, a small-time attorney, has started a game of cat and mouse with the police department. He is a scary intelligent man who has a great knowledge of police forensics. He came up with a set of rules he believes are a sure-fire way of avoiding capture. #1: Never kill anyone you know...he picks his victims at random, making sure that there is no profile made on the women. #2: Never have a motive...if he doesn't know the victim, there really isn't a motive for picking her. #3: Never have a discernable pattern...every time he kidnaps a woman, he makes sure that the manner is different every time. #4: Never carry a weapon after it's been used. #5: Beware of leaving physical evidence...he makes sure that there isn't any way that his body will leave any kind of physical evidence. The "maddog" killer leaves a different rule at every crime scene, taunting the police to catch him. They're at their wits end until Lucas Davenport, a detective who works for the department's Office of Special Intelligence, is called upon to find him. And Lucas has something that Vullion didn't count on...a survivor...a witness.

This story takes you through a thrill ride that makes it hard to put the book down, in anticipation of what will happen next. Sandford's characters are very authentic. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoy's suspensful thrillers. You will be on the edge of your seat from the first page to the last.

Book Review: Back when the series was good.
Summary: 4 Stars

Rules of Prey start off a great series that features Lucas Davenport, and hard cop that pretty much goes by his own rules. I know it sounds cliched, but thats' the only way to describe him. He's a maverick, at times does questionable things, but the bottom line is that he gets the job done.

In Rules of Prey, Lucas is up against a cunning killer that has certain rules he goes by in order not to get caught. Some of the rules are "Never kill anyone you know', "Never follow a Pattern" and "Don't take the weapon with you." Those are just some of the rules the killer goes by. Each time the killer kills, he leaves a rule for the police and Davenport. With each Rule, Davenport falls further behind.

For me, the downside is when we learn that Davenport also writes computer games. I found those parts brought the book to a halt and I just skimmed over that part. Don't let that discourage you from picking up this book or starting the series.

This book has a lot of great plot twists and turns that will keep the reader glued to the page. As a I said, this is back when the series was top notch. I highly suggest Rules of Prey.

Book Review: Davenport you are the man!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, Wow, Wow!!! Lucas Davenport has brought detective novels to a new high. I have never attached to a character this way. I was in the drivers seat with him the whole book. Thank you John Sanford for the ride.
