Book Reviews of Rumble FishBook Review: Random Mutterings Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not a great fan of teenage rite-of-passage books, but this one blew me away. The story is so beautifully developed, veering between comedy and tragedy. It tells the story of Rusty-James, a tough street punk with a "bad habit of getting attached to people". Despite the everyday violence of his life, he remains fundamentally an innocent, living in the shadow of his astonishing and enigmatic older brother the Motorcycle Boy, whom he admires and emulates, but is unable to understand. But something is close to breaking in the Motorcycle Boy, drawing the book to a shocking and terrible climax. I found this the darkest of Hinton's novels, and the best. The tale is multi-layered, with the voice of the Motorcycle Boy gradually breaking through Rusty's to express the book's underlying truths. Despite the shortness of the book, I found I could truly feel for Rusty-James and his world. The mysterious Motorcycle Boy, however, commands the piece as the wise, wild, tragically alone superhero of the streets. Rarely have I encountered a character more compelling. Heart-breaking.
Book Review: Ready for a Rumble!? Summary: 4 Stars
Rumble Fish is a great book that takes place in about the 1970's about a bunch of greasers and life out on the street back then. The same author that wrote THE OUTSIDERS wrote this book and does a good job writing book about "hoods". I definitely recommend this book to people who are looking for a read with some action!
Book Review: Ruff and Tumble Summary: 4 Stars
True to the S.E. Hinton style of writing, Rumble Fish portrays greasers and gang-fights as the norm. Rusty-James a ruff and tumble fourteen year old thrives in his environment of streetfights and parental neglect. He envies his older brother, the motorcycle boy because everyone fears and respects him. Rusty-James goal in life is to be just like motorcycle boy by gaining the same level fear and respect from his friends and others in his town. He tries to represent this tuff imagine in the most juvenile ways, but with motorcycle boy out of the picture Rusty-James life changes forever.
Book Review: Rumble Fish Summary: 5 Stars
Rusty James is boss of the gang in the book, Rumble Fish by S.E. Hinton.
The main characters of Rumble Fish are Rusty James, Biff, Motocycle Boy, Steve Hays, B.J. Jackson, Smokey Bennet, and Midget.
Rusty James has conflict with Biff, the other gang. When Rusty James was fighting with Biff, Motocycle Boy came and punished biff. Then he said to Rusty James, "Don't be like me." But Rusty James didn't care of that. When Motocycle Boy met his girlfriend, he died. At that time Motocycle Boy carried fishes by his hand. It was very impressed.
`the Outsider', `Rumble Fish" author's another book, is kind of same as `Rumble Fish'. Both of them are fighting and corruptive. But difference is that `the Outsider's main characters are deprived so they became gangs. `Rumble Fish' is not deprived. It is just corruptive and fighting. Also end of the book, it is very sad. These things are what I compared `Rumble Fish' and `the Outsider'.
The reason why I chose this book is just I liked this book's title. And my friend said this book is interesting.
The best part of this book is what Motocycle Boy as dying with fishes. This scene is very impressed at me.
