Book Reviews of Sabre's Call

Book Review: A Bizarre, Entertaining Read
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't know what to expect when reading this- I didn't have much to go by.
The plot, though seemingly random at first, makes more and more sense with every page until you end up at the end, completely blown away and questioning EVERYTHING. This book is haunting, funny, grotesque, and above all- BIZARRE.
The plot focuses on the Fallows family through three (bizarrely sped up) generations, as they are twisted and manipulated by a Satan-cat known as Sabre. Sabre seems to be half comedian, half dictator, half mentor and teacher, half Byronesque anti-hero, half redeemer (and yes, in this book there could be five halves)- and totally fascinating. There hasn't been a Satan so compelling since Paradise Lost.
The family moves from Maine, to Connecticut, to Heaven and Hell (which may be in their most interesting representations ever), South Carolina, and the limits everyone's sanity.
There is very little quiet-time in this book- from page one right until the end (and actually, the dedication as well...) has something that can bother someone, something to provoke our preconceptions of how things should be. I read it in one sitting, and wasn't bored once, never lost interest ONCE.

So anyway, it's shocking, and shockingly good. Try it- like De Sade (who actually appears as a Bowie-rocking dream-character in the story) once you read it you can't UNread it. But really, I don't think you'll WANT to unread it.
