Book Reviews of SailBook Review: A fast read..a "can't put it downer"! Summary: 4 Stars
This watery Patterson epic sent a missle directly to the heart of one of my greatest fears - being stranded out in the middle of the ocean - nothing but deep, dark ocean waters, endless sky and an occasional fin, just to keep the adrenalin pumping. Add to that a dysfunctional family with a Mom, hoping that the "family vacation" will bring the group together like nothing else will. I granted myself the luxury of reading SAIL in one sitting, and even with the Olympics in full swing on the TV, I stayed riveted to the bobbing raft. Since I have been very critical of Patterson's last couple of efforts, I'm happy to report that he has redeemed himself in my eyes, with SAIL.
Patterson took a little more care than usual in developing his characters, so it was easy to love'em or hate'em appropriately. I love it when I don't know what is going to happen next - and although the players were clearly labeled from the beginning, when and how and a few surprises were left to be revealed as we neared the ending - as it should be.
Altogether, this was a very satisfying read - very realistic even if they had to throw in a snake that tasted like chicken, and a giant tuna with a digestion problem. I read for fun, for heaven's sakes! Even so, I've decided to re-think my idea for a family reunion aboard a boat next summer...just to be on the safe side.
Book Review: A good and fast read Summary: 4 Stars
This is yet another attention-grabbing book from James Patterson. Regular readers will be pleased that this is finally out in print. While the premise is a little unlikely - an inexperienced mom takes the kids out on a sailing trip with her former brother-in-law - readers will definitely enjoy Patterson's ability to surprise. My only wish...write longer books! With his standard short chapters, these books read fast, but maybe too fast. I'd like to spend more time reading this author. His attention to detail is right on target, as usual. I always enjoy a new James Patterson novel!
Book Review: A good thriller from Patterson, better than I expected Summary: 4 Stars
SAIL is the latest thriller to be churned out from the James Patterson book factory. I didn't have high hopes for this one. It seemed like Patterson decided to write a novel about one of his hobbies. I didn't look forward to 300 pages of a family facing troubles on the high seas. However, as the book played out, I found myself drawn into the standard Patterson plot twists and characters and winded up enjoying this novel quite a bit.
Cahterine Dunne 45 year old heart surgeon with three kids. Her cheating first husband died while sailing, and she's determined to go on an extended sailing trip to reunite with her kids, each of whom has their own problems. The novel is standard Patterson, which isn't a criticism. You get standard characterization: one kid smokes pot, one is bulemic, ex-CIA bad guys, determined DEA agent, daibolical, philandering new husband.
Catherine believes a two-month sailing trip will be just the thing to reunite her family. She's lost her kids since the death of their father. Almost immediately, the boat starts having problems. Thankfully, her brother-in-law Jake is there to help them. Peter Carlyle, Catherine's new husband is a rich defense attorney. He urged Catherine to take this trip and was very supportive. But, as soon as she leaves, we find out he isn't all he claims to be.
That's enoug of the plot. This is a good book. It actually throws a lot at you other than sailing, but covers it in Patterson's usual cursury manner. This book isn't as good as THE QUICKIE, but is much better than STEP ON A CRACK, HONEYMOON, or JUDGE AND JURY. You will find absolutely nothing new in this book. Patterson is what he is. This book just happens to be better than his others. Patterson will never recapture the magic of his early Cross books, but that doesn't mean he still can't write good thrillers.
Book Review: A great book if you're ten years old Summary: 1 Stars
Worse than a comic book - corny dialog, silly plot, I was actually embarrassed for the author. Plus it was boring and predictable. I'm sorry but I couldn't finish it, it was so bad. But I looked ahead - you'll never guess how it ends - yes you will - by page 40!
Book Review: A great read Summary: 4 Stars
Always love his books - this one was very suspenseful. I really enjoyed it and couldn't put it down.
