Book Review: A Surprisingly Good Book

If all you care about is unadorned action and suspense in your books, you'll like this novel -- it has them in spades.
However, if you also care about how a book is written, you may like this book EVEN MORE.
I didn't know what to expect when I started this book, and in fact, I almost put it down when it LOOKED as though the story was heading in the direction of the ridiculous C.I.A.-Chases-Mysical-Ancient-Weapon genre. Usually, I find that books that have to resort to supernatural powers as a plot element often only use such preaternatural explanations in order to mask the author's inability to reason out a believable story. In this case, however, author James Rollins took the extra effort to come up with interesting explanations for events and mysteries that kept me wondering whether ancient mysical powers or cutting-edge, real-world science was actually behind the major events in the novel. I particularly liked that element of Mr. Rollins' story-telling and as a result, I found this to be a surprisingly entertaining novel.
I would definitely recommend this book to action-thriller fans.
