Book Review: A tasteless recipe!

A friend of mine recommended this particular book on her return from Paris, where 'Sangria' had bagged the Gourmand award for the world's Best Food Literature Award. I am not quite certain what that category means, but Sangria is a badly written book, no where close to even a semblance of 'literature' and also a terribly designed book.
From the cover, to the intensely cluttered copyright and acknowledgment page, to the terribly laid out index and 'Also from Undercover Utopia' page, it is quite clear that the publisher has no idea of design. The glossy paper, (so terrible to touch) on which it has been printed, missing pages, innumerable grammatical and punctuation errors makes you wonder if the publisher has an editor at work at all.
Apart from the maudlin and mushy tale of a woman who has lost her sense of taste and smell and regains it in her journey of cooking and hosting, the book reeks of cliched expressions and unimaginative writing. Then there are the recipes: The one that really got my goat was the cucumber and pomegranate salad!
Here it is: 'Peel the cucumbers and slice thinly setting them on a serving platter. Split open the pomegranate and sprinkle the seeds on top of the cucumber slices. Serve cold.' Who would have thought you had to travel to Spain and Australia for that genius of a recipe!!
The photographs are awful, all close-ups, you do not get a sense of the dish or its presentation on a table at all; and one would think, given that the recipes are from the story, it would be presented far more imaginatively!
I would not waste my time, energy or money on the book, read or cook from it!!
