Book Review: A book well needed in the nineties

I read comments from other people about the book who trashed it for being unmoralistic and too racy. I am really wondering why they picked it up. The back cover had a swear word on it--examples of Savage's columns. If you couldn't have handled it-- then you shouldn't have bought it. It's a real shame that you couldn't handle it, though. Even though Dan Savage is a little pompous(and why shouldn't he be, jealous folks? He's got a popular column, a book deal and a sense of humor) at times, he is also very open and answers peoples questions when there is no one else to turn to and ask. I found myself making fun of the same letters that Savage did-- some people just ask idiotic questions. But other people really needed help and Dan was able to give it to them. I can't think of another place except this book to find such open questions and answers about so many different kind of aspects to relationships. Maybe it's a bit vulgar at times but I've sworn before-- I can handle it. I don't know if I was a mother if I'd go out and buy it for my teenage or college age kids but only because I think it would freak them out to see my mother with the book. But as a college student, I bought it and enjoyed it. Humor on every page and a great staff that helps give Dan opinions when he needs them (like about het stuff). This book also opened my mind on gay people...I used to not really like them...I look at them differently for some reason now. This book is a MUST READ.
