I'm glad I only paid a penny for this book, had I paid the full retail price I would have resented it. To call this book contrived, trite, obvious, un-funny and desperately UN-scary, would be to accord it a level of distinction it clearly does not deserve. I cannot imagine what the publisher was thinking about in commissioning it, nor can I imagine what Peter Straub was talking about when he wrote on the cover "This novel knows where it is going and intends to get there with no wasted motion." I too know where this novel is going; the re-cycling bin!
