Book Reviews of Second ChanceBook Review: It was ok Summary: 3 Stars
I have read a few of Jane Green s books and was not a huge fan of this one. It took a while to get into it and even then went slowly. Although I felt for the characters it was def not one of her better books.
Book Review: Jane Green does it again! Loved this. Summary: 5 Stars
I've read almost all of Jane Green's novels, which, in my opinion are always fantastic and witty. This is one of my favorites - she is more than chick-lit, I think...she really makes us think - in a fun way. I recently had the chance to interview her for my blog, which was fantastic. She has a new book coming up, Dune Road, in June. Can't wait!
Book Review: Mixed emotions on this one... Summary: 3 Stars
I have always liked Jane Green. I think I read Jemima J first, but have read all but her latest as well. This was definately on the heavy side for her. There were a few issues that just didn't ring true to me at all. One of the big ones to me was that although Tom was killed in a terrorist attack, somehow the whole world was more caught up in the affair between Saffrom and Pearce. I realize it's just a book, but the storyline lost something for me on that. Tom's death just seemed to kind of disappear from the whole story. Overall, it was certainly readable (I actually read it on a long flight with a couple layovers), but if it had been my first Jane Green chances are I would not have been drawn to a second.
Book Review: Not satisfied, but glad to know I'm not alone Summary: 1 Stars
I am disappointed. I bought this book 2 years ago, because I had read previous books by Jane Green and liked them. I have attempted to read it 3 times since then, only to stop in the middle of the second or third chapter. Every time I get confused about the plot and the story becuase of typographical errors, inconsistancies, and lengthy discriptions of decor and scenery. I ALWAYS find myself drifting off in my thoughts as I'm reading. I'm not sure, but I suspect that I'm not supposed to be thinking about what I'm making for Sunday dinner while reading a book.
I was happy to read other reviews by people who were not happy with the book. I will probably sell my copy to someone who wants to give it a go.
Book Review: Not very good... Summary: 2 Stars
I wish I'd come and checked out the reviews here, before wasting money on Second Chance.
Not only were some of the editing mistakes annoying , but there were also some inconsistencies that I suppose could be interpreted differently by different readers.
For example, at one point Holly was bemoaning her absent parents, and comparing them to Saffron's who were eccentric, yet "they were there." Then several chapters later there was mention of Saffron's home being the hang out because her parents were never around. Not a big deal I know, but confusing and annoying.
I guess maybe the reader, was supposed to feel sorry for Holly and her lifeless marriage, but I just found her whiny and irritating.
If you like Jane Green stick to her other works, they are much more fun and enjoyable.
