Book Reviews of Second Chance

Book Review: Predictable and repetitive
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this book to read on a plane, and I only finished it because I had nothing better to do. The characters are boring and annoying, repeating themselves over and over again. It's so exasperating!
This is the first book by Jane Green that I've read, so I don't know about the rest, but I would definitively recommend avoiding it!

Book Review: Repetitive, but Good Story Overall
Summary: 2 Stars

There are many storylines playing on in the novel and it is sometimes hard to keep track of what time we're reading about or which country- England or America? It is about a group of four friends who are brought together after 20 years apart over the sudden death of a close old friend. All of the main characters are intricately woven and even by page 150 we are still getting to know them on a deeper level.

We have Paul (and wife Anna) who are unbelievably good looking and successful but cannot have children.
There's Olivia who is an animal lover, also pretty and kind, who was recently left by her seven year boyfriend who travelled to America to build his career and get married to someone else.
There's also Saffron- an actress in Hollywood who is remarkably attractive, yet who is in love with a married man.
And Holly- our main gal- who is married with two beautiful children, yet is not IN LOVE with her husband- who is in love with the recently deceased, best friend Tom.

We are taken from the UK to America to sort out pieces of their lives and to find out what keeps these middle aged people afloat as the grieving process goes through over Tom who was killed in a terrorist attack on America. (No, not 9/11- a train wreck in NY)

Again, at times the story is hard to follow- Jane Green goes from first person, to third person; from present time, to past tense; from describing one couple in America, to follow up in UK; and breaks from one character's story to immediately jump into the next character's.
Another really aggravating issue of Green's is her tendency to repeat herself. I mean, how many times do I need to read that "Holly feels unsure of herself, but knows that she would never ever have an affair." By page 200, I've been told in pretty much the same words over and over again, approxiamately six times. It feels like she doesn't trust me to remember Holly's characteristics and feels she needs to remind me over and over again.
I blame the edittors. (spelling?)

Even with these quirks, it is okay to read and is a wonderful story- just a bit too repetitive.

Book Review: Second Chance
Summary: 5 Stars

Being the first time I had ever ordered off of Amazon, I was wondering how the experience would be. I am happy to say the experience was nice. The condition of the book was described as good being slighty used, when I received the book it was so pleasing to see the condition was very good and hardly looked used at all. I will definatley use this sight again.

Book Review: Second Chance
Summary: 1 Stars

It has a lot of talk around the topics of men, marriage, sex, make-up, clothes, best friends, affairs, gossip, and kids. I did not know what I was getting myself into because this is the first book I have read by Jane Green. I am disappointed.

Book Review: Second Chance
Summary: 4 Stars

Enjoyed this fiction novel. Well written and a delightful story of old friendships and how much they mean as we grow older.
