Book Review: Better than your average romantic thriller.
Summary: 3 Stars
I've read two previous Erica Spindler books, and this is definitely the best she's done so far. The story involves Jane Westbrook being convinced that the man who ran over her with a speedboat is now behind the conspiracy of her surgeon husband being accused of murder. While Jane sighs dramatically, passes out a lot, and generally acts like a simpering moron, her much more interesting sister, Stacy Killian, tries to get to the bottom of the mystery.
Spindler has toned down the romance aspect of her novel, and I appreciated this. Her characters (except for Jane) come across as real, and not just romance novel cliches. The plot is well-constructed, and while I anticipated many plot developments, there were still a few surprises in store. The book's biggest liability is the central character of Jane. She was irritating rather than sympathetic, and I quickly got tired of her melodramatic behaviour. Luckily, her sister Stacy was a good character, and kept me grounded in the story.
All in all, a solid romantic suspense tale. I would give it three-and-a-half if the rating system would let me.
