After purchasing the book and scanning through the pages briefly, a mere cursory glnce, I was excited to see that an intelligent man had created an intelligent piece of writing on Dimethyl Tryptamine and it's effects that could retain some lofty values and wouldn't sound like the gung-ho Terrence McKenna or dull Rick Strassman. After having read the book, accumulated the series of useless facts (and that's saying something, I love trivia) and reading on about none other than himself and his undying LOVE for himself, I actually ended up giving the book away... Or maybe threw it away.
There is an ineptitude I cant seem to grasp: he wouldn't campaign for drugs out on the streets but would rather sit tightly in his little office in Shrub Oak writing about the glories of something he's never even tried himself. Where's the fun? Where ever it is, the fun is not in this book.
Other timid, anti-drug, anti-fun, know-it-all, self-infatuating, wannabe Jewish doctors will love this book, but to the experienced and even half-way educated readers, you may be disappointed by the regurgitated facts and listless squandering of Pickover praising Marcel Proust, Pickover's own puzzle making ability and his home town, Shrub Oak.
The only reason I sound so bitter is because I could have bought an earlier book from his pantheon of written word and might've actually enjoyed it because it would have been fresh and full of energy, not strung out for 20 some years trying to cash royalty checks, I didn't and it has soured me. I'm soured, Cliff!
Perhaps it is time to hang the perverbial hat on the hook, Cliff..
