Book Reviews of Sex and the CityBook Review: A good read if you don't expect the HBO series in a book Summary: 4 Stars
Other than containing many of the HBO characters' names, it isn't very similar. The tone is much darker, and the characters less likable, but it is still an interesting look at a series of vignettes. Don't be expecting a novel-type story. This book is composed of glimpses into the lives of single New Yorkers, and each vignette doesn't always connect to the next. It is quite interesting, but a very different book from the HBO series.
Book Review: A little disappointing... Summary: 2 Stars
As a HUGE fan of the HBO series I figured that this was a must read. The book is always better than the movie / tv show, right? Wrong. Kudos to Darren Starr for taking this disjointed collection of non-sense and making a successful series out of it. True, it wasn't all bad - just most of it was. This book has soured me from wanting to read Ms. Busnell's newest endeavor.
Book Review: A very good read... don't expect it to mirror the TV show. Summary: 4 Stars
Sex and the City is an in-depth look at the city New York City and its inhabitants. This book is perfect for anyone who lives in a small town or middle America. It will totally prepare them for a trip or move to the big city. The nicknames are hilarious. A lot of them do not only reside in New York, they are everywhere. For example the "toxic bachelor", whom can be seen at your local grocery store or in the bed beside you!!! Sex and the City is like a case study of the residents of New York City. It will leave you in stitches. Candace Bushnell is a terrific writer, but don't expect the book to be exactly like the show. If you do, you will miss out on a great read.
Book Review: Absolutely plotless. Boring and unworthy of your time. Summary: 1 Stars
PLEASE do not think this is the TV show. I have all the DVD sets for the TV show; but this book is just horrible and very far from even close to how character/personality-rich the HBO series is. Like many others, I bought this book because I love the show, but this book is a huge disappointment. It is very choppy with absolute no coherence, which makes great 25 minute TV episodes, but not a book. It is so choppy I thought it is a joke. The only similarity between this book and the TV show is they both have a character called Carrie Bradshaw, but that's it. Really, if you are looking for sassiness in the show, the punch lines and hush hush sex talk that's so vulgar yet urban and captivating in the show, do not buy this book. I repear, do not buy this book. Buy the DVD set. If you bought it already, well, buy the DVD set again in lieu of buying this book. The character does not grow, the narrative is without a perspective, and there are no sub-characters that anybody should find a most distant simpathy or interest in. A very boring read. (In fact, I am not sure if I should call it a read)
Book Review: Accurate, Witty, Poignant Summary: 5 Stars
...are three of the words I'd use to describe this (extremely well-written) book. A series of short, mostly unjointed, chapters (excerpts of life), each of which makes you think. Some of the strongest writing I've seen.
