Book Reviews of Sex and the CityBook Review: Brace Yourself If You're a Show Fan... Summary: 3 Stars
Usually the book is better than the movie--or in this case, TV show. I loved the show, so I thought I'd read the book. While you will recognize similarities in the characters and the plots, the characters in the novel (who are not exactly the same as the show) came off to me as even more superficial than their television counterparts. Even so, they are still sexy and trendy, and fun to read about, so you might not be TOO disappointed.
Book Review: Can I have my money back? Summary: 1 Stars
I watched the series, read part of the book and kicked myself in the a** for buying the book. Stick to the HBO series and find something worth reading because this book is not it.
Book Review: Candace should be thanking Parker, Catrall, Davis and Nixon Summary: 2 Stars
... for making her a best-selling author, because she couldn't do it on this drivel alone.
Yes, there were moments of genuine entertainment in the book. But I don't know if it's my Midwestern sensibility or my "fashionista" membership expiring, but I found the book to be snobbish and shallow.
In other books exploring the fab lives of the girls in Manhattan, I got a voyueristic thrill reading about their exploits at work, shopping, at the clubs, and in bed. The HBO series fufilled those same joys.
But reading SITC I was annoyed and dismissive of the characters little problems made into molehills, a la NYC neurosis. That kind of behavior is forgivable in teenagers, where every pimple is a crisis. It is less forgivable of 35 year olds hung over trailing mink coats on private jets.
Book Review: Carrie and Big.....a great pair. Summary: 5 Stars
GREAT BOOK! I love the HBO series and was NOT let-down by the book. It's a great and FUN read. The connection between Carrie and Big is fabulous. You can't wait to see what happens to them next. I would love to read more on these characters...not from just the TV series, but from the author herself.
Book Review: Clever Trash Summary: 5 Stars
I am a big fan. I have read all Ms. Bushnell's books and I love them all. The reader gets a peak at a lifestyle that is both revolting and compelling. She is witty and insightful. She writes well. If you haven't read it yet, go for it. You may hate the characters, but you will probably enjoy reading the book whether you admit it or not.
