I read about 3 books a week and listen to at least one CD book a week as I drive. This is, by far, the most engaging and breathtaking listened-to read I have had to date! I am not finished yet with the 900 plus pages of listening, and am mesmerized by the depth of character development. I am thrilled that this is a book I am hearing, rather than reading, as the full color of the words, the flow of the intertwined stories within the story is richer and more alive with the listening.
The beauty and passion and love of India so richly flows from the story of Shantaram. I really would love to visit Bombay - with Mr. Roberts as my guide - what an amazing journey that would be!

I picked up this book on a business trip to Myrtle Beach and I could barely put down this book to work! The story line was amazing and the characters so vivid and interesting! This novel was wonderful...I didn't want to put it down and was truly sad when it came to an end.
I met someone recently from India who met GDR through a friend and had coffee with him. They discussed the book and GDR maintains that the story is true. Not that I doubted it but i guess it made it even more real.
I highly recommend this book - one of the best in a very long time!
