Book Review: .....AND THEN WHAT HAPPENED???

This was an "up and down" read; many interesting, intense parts, but with moves, (and more moves), wives, children (and more children) -- it became disjointed in places. Lacked character development and there were certainly some characters who deserved a great deal of development. Reading this book, one becomes frustrated that if no other reason than the well-being of the children, that a mother wouldn't make the break (and some of the wives did). While there is a fear of eternal damnation and brainwashing, other women were willing to make the break and some of the new wives brought into this marriage were already divorced. One wonders why the author couldn't put the needs of her chidren before her own, and just stop threatening to leave. Do it. There certainly was a lot to complain about in the lifestyle, but even the stories of poverty and hardship started wearing thin.
The book could have had a strong finish; finding how life turned out for some of the children and most importantly, how life turned out for the writer. There is one paragraph given over to her present marriage of 19 years. It occured to me that the author purposely avoided having a "happy ending", but was invested in leaving the reader with pity for her. While an amazing, often intersting insite into the world of plural marriages, it needed to have a broader presentation than just the author's life, when there were so many other vital people in her world - including seven other wives.
