Book Reviews of Shopgirl: A NovellaBook Review: Loved It! Summary: 5 Stars
Shopgirl is a five star novella. The characters are so incredibly developed and described that I felt as though I knew them personally. Mirabelle suffers from depression, works at the glove counter while daydreaming about working the perfume counter and is unlucky at love. One day Ray Porter stops at her counter to buy some gloves and ends up with Mirabelle's heart. From the start of this relationship, I wanted to warn her against him, "he's just using you!"
I was hooked from the very beginning and wasn't able to put this little book down. Even when I was finished reading, I sat with the book in my lap and thought about Mirabelle and how in real life we would probably be friends.
Book Review: MARTIN'S SECOND BEST Summary: 4 Stars
Along with Pure Drivel and Cruel Shoes this ranks as Martin's best work. The economy of worse useage here is astounding. Most authors would've taken this subject matter and plot and turned it into some 500 pg opus. Martin instead churns out a fast read novella.
I think Martin is one of the great writers of our time. It's hard to beleive this is the guy who used to perform with an arrow through his cranium.

Book Review: Not for me Summary: 1 Stars
I thought this would be a lighthearted fun easy read. I was rather surprised and greatly disappointed that it was depressing, vulgar and actually trashy. I couldn't finish it.
Book Review: Not for me... Summary: 3 Stars
Steve Martin is extremely funny. There was a lot of vulgar language in this book that I wasn't impressed with but the funny parts made up for it. All in all it was a good, fast read.
Book Review: Not what you would expect! Summary: 5 Stars
Steve Martin's writing is simply intoxicating. He pulls you into the story with characters that you could believe and understand. This story focuses on almost a late coming of age story of a young woman named Mirabelle who searches for acceptance and love, yet within that process finds herself. It is beautifully written and not what you expect from comedian Martin.
