Book Reviews of Sick PuppyBook Review: A wild ride! Summary: 5 Stars
[...] I appreciate an author who takes his readers on a wild ride. Carl Hiaasen is one of my favorite comedic authors. I have read at least six of his books and I have loved every one of them. While this may not be his best, it is still worth five stars in entertainment value.
His humor is satirical and dark. It is outrageous and over-the-top. It is another delightful adventure filled with outlandish characters and scenarios. It kept me laughing most of the way. I gobbled it up like popcorn and it left me wanting more. Thank God, Carl Hiaasen is prolific. He is also consistent regarding the quality of wonderfully engaging humor. Enjoy the ride.

Book Review: Bizarro Summary: 4 Stars
Reading this book is like being on a long, over-crowded roller coaster with an odd collection of strange and/or creepy characters and a black Labrador retriever. It is not fine literature, but it could qualify as morality play - - - on Bizarro World - - - on amphetamines. The rhino "hunt" alone was worth the read.
Book Review: Completely implausible, yet believable. Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my all-time favorite books. I recently read Nature Girl, and although I liked those characters, that story didn't work as well for me, somehow. If I stop to think about the characters and plot of Sick Puppy, it is all completely ridiculous and unbelievable. If I were to explain it to someone else, they would just look at me like I was an idiot. Yet, while reading it, it all makes perfect sense. Twilly Spree's craziness is the only logical response to the illogic of everyday life. Even the highly-improbable climactic scene, involving a charging rhino, rings perfectly true while you are entranced by the story.
I hope Twilly goes off his meds again and ends up in another Hiaasen story.
Book Review: Couldn't stop reading! Summary: 5 Stars
The book was a wonderful lampoon of greed, corruption and social ignorance. I assume Hiaasen placed his story in Florida because he lives there, but it is a perfect microcosm for society's ills. Great characters drive the story and he makes the most absurd premises seem believable. I enjoyed the book from beginning to end.
Book Review: Delightful tale of comic mayhem Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of those books that you just love to read over and over again to marvel at the prose. Hiaasen's comic inventiveness and characters are priceless. It's not light fare, being that a few die some rather gruesome deaths, but even that is entertaining.
