Book Reviews of Sick PuppyBook Review: It made me smile Summary: 4 Stars
I smiled as I read this book. I laughed out loud many times. I liked it.
My review isn't much to go on, but it's my opinion and when you boil down all the crap in all reviews, whether good or bad, that's all they are...just subjective opinions. My opinion is all that matters...trust me. HA!
Book Review: Many chuckles to be had Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first - and so far only - Carl Hiaasen book I've ever read. it was a fairly entertaining read, I liked all the quirks he put in here. Yes, there's a overall story, but the sweet thing about this book were the details. You have all these characters with quarks, like the fat senator who would rather take pictures of himself while he's intimate with his wife and is a neat freak in a weird way, or the thug who wears girdles made of reptile skin. Goodness gracious. There's also a lot of moments where I would smile to myself as I read a rather amusing part in this environmentalist vs greedy rich/political men tale. If the rest of this author's books are similar to this, then I'd love to read more.
Book Review: Missing Sleep Summary: 5 Stars
Trust me, don't start reading Sick Puppy by Carl Hiassen if you have to work the next day. You know you have a great book when you are reading in bed and the alarm goes off for work and you don't realize where the time went. Then, you still don't want to stop reading so you call in sick!
What a fantastic writer with an imagination beyond compare!
Book Review: My intro to Hiaasen Summary: 4 Stars
This was my first Hiaasen book and because it I have read everything else that he has written! Yes, the characters are larger than life in many ways, but at the same time they are very real. The story line is crazy. Again from my line of work, truth IS still stranger than fiction. The book is a bit on the crude side with language, but it seems to me to be right on the mark for the characters.
Having said all of that, I read fiction to relax and unwind. If I want heavy, uber-realistic plots with in depth character analysis then I would read Dickens or some such. My point is that Hiaasen's books are great fun. I laughed out loud more times than I can remember while reading this book. His plots twist into unexpected directions. Quite simply a very fun read. Sure the language is a bit rough in places, so if you're easily offended, you might want to stay clear, but otherwise this book, as all of his books do, entertained me wonderfully. He is definitely one of my favorite authors.
Book Review: Not his best Summary: 2 Stars
I have read all of Carl Hiaasen's previous books and really loved them. Could not find anything negative to say about his writing but Sick Puppy is another matter.
It just seems more of the same repeated again and again. It does have its amusing moments but they are between countless pages of repetition. If you have read his earlier books, you would know exactly what this book is about and that is normally a good thing, but this time, the characters were a bit dull and the action too drawn out for my tastes.
Most disappointing. I will put the book back on my bookshelf and hope that Hiaasen's future books are better.
