Book Reviews of Silent PreyBook Review: Great!!!. it got me hooked on Sanford! Summary: 5 Stars
This was my first read from the prey series, this is the book that got me hooked on the prey series. I have, and have read all but one of the Prey books. I hope he writes them forever.
Book Review: I pushed myself to finish it Summary: 3 Stars
What is going on with the Prey series? Granted I haven't read them in order, but i read Mind Prey first and I wanted the rest of them to be as brilliant as that one, but slowly, as I pick up yet another Prey book, I get even more disappointed. This one starts brilliantly - excellent opening scenes in (& out) of the courtroom bringing the reader up to speed with the main character Bekker and the guy who is going to get him, Davenport. Now, I really like Davenoprt as a character, he is great but the rest of the story left alot to be desired. It basically introduces Bekker as a pathologist-turned-psycho and what he has done in the past Prey books to get Davenport so intent on hunting him down but unfortunately, it just goes on and on and there is nothing in there that I haven't read before. The only redeeming feature of this one is the fact that Bekker is a complete nutcase (Sandford has done very well here) with a penchant for women's clothing, but apart from that, it is really not an interesting story at all. Infact, I gave 1 extra star for the psycho who likes collecting eyelids and eyes from his victims (good variation on the usual run-of-the-mill serial killer). I am sorely disappointed with the Prey Series and I am really considering not reading any others. If you are after a heart-grabbing sensational crime thrillers try Dennis Lehane or read Mind Prey, if you want to stick with Sandford, otherwise, don't bother with this one.
Book Review: I tired easily from struggling through this verbose story . Summary: 1 Stars
On and on and on it goes, where it stops.....who cares? very verbose story filled with so many characters it's hard to keep track. the longer I struggled with it, the more worn out I felt. At half point I skipped to the end to find out who had done it, said oh, ho hum and tossed it.
Book Review: John Sanford is phenomenal, the "Prey" is the best ever!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
As an avid "Prey" fanatic I can truthfully tell you that this is an awesome book, in an awesome series, written by an awesome writer. If you're into serial killers, man hunts, graphic depiction, then this book and series are for you. When you finish the "Prey" series check out "The Night Crew" you won't be disappointed.
Book Review: Just Okay Summary: 3 Stars
SILENT PREY is the fourth book in the "Lucas Davenport" series, and I thought it was a worthwhile read. This novel is an unofficial sequel to EYES OF PREY, and features the same serial killer villain, who breaks out of prison to terrorize New York. So my first piece of advice is to read EYES OF PREY before reading this novel.
This book is well written, but I thought there was too much plot. Not only is Davenport on the trail of a serial killer, but he's also after a group of police vigilantes known as the "Robin Hoods." The vigilante plot is convoluted and complex, and I had some problems keeping all the names and plotlines straight. The serial killer stuff is essentially a retread of what you read in EYES OF PREY -- the killer pretty much thinks and acts the same way as he did in the prior book. So there's nothing new or original here.
Sandford's a fine writer, but I thought this effort was a relative disappointment compared to some of his other Prey books. This novel is a decent entertainment, but I think there are much better crime novels out there.
