Book Reviews of Singing For DummiesBook Review: Exactly what I needed Summary: 5 Stars
I am taking Bengali folk singing lessons. Bengali folk songs demand strong voice and wide vocal range. I tried quite a few different ways to increase my vocal range. Following the suggested instructions in this book, I have gained two notes in the upper side of the range in three weeks. I am also singing much better in the lower range. I feel that I'll continue to make improvements, if I continue to follow Pamelia S. Phillips' suggested techniques. Even though I am more familiar with Bengali music than Western music, I did not have any problem understanding this book. As a matter fact this book has taught me a lot of terms used in Western music. Accompanying CD is a big help.
Book Review: Fun, Clear and Thorough Summary: 4 Stars
As a private voice teacher and big fan of the "for Dummies" series of books, I found this book to be fun, clear and thorough. The Dummies series is known for its unique ability to take technically complex subject matter and break the concepts down in a simple, clear and entertaining way. This book is no exception. While Pamelia S. Phillips does a wonderful job of tackling in-depth topics, I think most beginners will have a difficult time digesting and applying all of the information.
Book Review: GOOD BOOK 4 Stars
Let me just say that this is a great book, packed with great information(all the for dummies book series are good books really),it even has a cd inside with vocal excercises, and i found this book to be very helpful. Now with that being said let me tell you something else,GET SINGING LESSONS.Do Not go and buy this book to subsitute it for singing lessons. It is great to get a singing book but make shure you are taking singing lessons. And if you are already taking singing lessons then talk to you're music teacher and ask you're music teacher if it is ok for you to do the excercise in this book.Because some vocal excercies may damage you're voice,if you're voice is not ready yet or if you are a beginer.
Book Review: GOOD SINGING BOOK Summary: 4 Stars
I have been singing for the past 2 years. I've bought many books but in my opinion, I would buy the book by Roger Love called Set Your Voice Free. Singing for Dummies is not a bad book but I don't like the way the author explains everything because she/he makes singing an impossible thing to do and the book is super long.
Roger Love's book is not that long and it gives you straight forward facts and details on singing for all levels of singers. It also brings a CD so you can practice with the book.
I prefer Roger Love's Book than this book but nonetheless, this book is pretty good but it is too long.
Goodluck!
Book Review: GREAT BOOK OVERALL Summary: 5 Stars
THIS IS A GREAT BOOK OVERALL. AS AN ACTOR I HAVE FOUND THE TECHNIQUES HELPFUL FOR MY ACTING. THERE'S A LOT OF THEORY THOUGH (AS WITH ALL DUMMIES BOOKS) SO BE PREPARED.
