Book Review: Not as good as his brother, Frankly

Following on from his wild collection of craic stories in A Monk Swimming, McCourt deviates dramatically from what people with a sense of humour thought was a hilarious and rumbunctious verbal pub crawl. Here he gets into pseudo Frank-territory, describing how he mended his ways in an-Oprahesque turnaround in his life, so as to allow for the sterotypical Hollywood happy ending. You can just sense that far from the self-aggrandisement and sheer indulgent spirit displayed on every page of Monk, the spirit that every hedonist amongst his readership warmed to and empathised with, here from page one onwards we can sense a rosy and triumphant procession to safety, mundanity and tedious old age.I personally wish Malachy had stayed in the bar, because he was a better swimmmer than he is a singer.
